Sheheen is the head coach of the Gokulam Kerala FC academy team in India. He has completed all three levels of the Premier Skills training program and the advanced Premier Skills Champions course.

Sheheen Usman's experience

I began my Premier Skills journey in 2017 through a community coaching programme in Wayanad. After completing the Premier Skills All Coaches programme, I was promoted as a coach educator in Kerala and Bangalore, where we successfully conducted over six cascade programmes.

After the pandemic, I was thrilled to be part of the Premier League Primary Stars initiative. It introduced me to the importance of PSHE and the value of PE in primary education. I am now excited to see how Premier League Primary Stars can revolutionize physical education and primary coaching in India.

Through the training programme, I gained a deeper understanding of how to incorporate life skills, like teamwork and leadership, into my football sessions. I also learned new methodologies for creating dynamic and inclusive training environments, ensuring every player is engaged. The focus on PSHE has enhanced my ability to teach values beyond the game, while the leadership training has equipped me to mentor other coaches and educators effectively. 

Premier Skills training has inspired me to think more creatively about designing diverse sessions. I now focus on integrating PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education into my coaching, making sessions not only about football but also about life skills. As a Primary Stars Champion, I feel a stronger responsibility to inspire new leaders and teachers, using my sessions as a platform to encourage them to adopt holistic approaches in their teaching and coaching.

The biggest change I’ve seen in my learners is their growing ability to quickly grasp new concepts. This shift has allowed me to create more creative and engaging sessions, both on the field and in the classroom. My sessions are a mix of practical and theoretical learning, which keeps them highly engaged and excited. I’ve noticed that they enjoy the variety in session formats, which boosts their enthusiasm and overall learning experience.
